4Domestic violence in Finland - two large scale
postal surveys done in Finland, first in 1997,
second in 2005 - in surveys, violence was defined
as also including threats of physical and sexual
violence - violence common and widespread,
experienced at least once in a fifth of current
intimate relationships - womens higher education
found not to prevent abuse - present in all
social classes and on all income levels -
violence more common by partners in past
relationships - the home is dangerous for Finnish
females, the street for males - according to
police statistics, about 90 percent of victims
are female - more severe injuries than in other
violent crimes towards females
5- The Kotirauhaa Campaign is part of an
international, Europe- wide Council of Europe
Campaign against domestic violence
(www.coe.int/stopviolence) - government departments and other NGOs supporting
the Family Federation in running the Campaign
(Departments of Health and Social Affairs,
Justice and Foreign Affairs, Amnesty, The
Federation of Mother and Child Homes and
Shelters, National Womens Line, Rape Crisis
Center, Multicultural Womens Association) - funded by RAY, Finlands Slot Machine
