Title: Welcomes you

1
Welcomes you
Department of Agriculture, Government of
Chhattisgarh
2
  • Cropwise Performance during Kharif
  • Rainfall
  • Normal average rainfall in the state is 1250
mm. (1200 mm to 1600 mm in different agro
climatic zones), Rainfall received so far is 994
    mm.
  • 12 Tehsils in 4 districts of the state
(Raigarh, Sarguja, Jashpur Dantewada) have been
affected due to deficit rainfall. However, it is
not likely to affect the total anticipated
production in view of the total area under
    cultivation.

3
  • Cropwise Performance during Kharif
  • Target Prospect
  • Cropping system is predominantly paddy based
    73 area under paddy
  • Target area for 2004 48.10 lakh ha which is
1.5 higher than last years achievement.
  • Cereals 36.30 lakh ha.
  • Pulses 5.40 lakh ha.
  • Oilseeds 3.90 lakh ha.
  • Vegetable 2.50 lakh ha.
  • Others

4
  • Cropwise Performance during Kharif
  • Target production for 2004 69.90 lakh tonnes
which is 6.6 higher than last years
    achievement.
  • Cereals 61.70 lakh tonnes.
  • Pulses 3.90 lakh tonnes
  • Oilseeds 2.70 lakh tonnes.
  • Vegetable 1.60 lakh tonnes.
  • Others
  • The targets are likely to be achieved.

5
  • Major constraints in fixing and achieving higher
    targets
  • Major dependence on Monsoon rains (gt 71 crop
    area is rainfed)
  • Insufficient availability of quality HYV seeds
of various crops suitable to different
    Agro-climatic condition.
  • Low imbalanced use of fertilizers
  • Average 38.72 kg N.P.K./ha
  • Consumption ratio is 831
  • Wide variation in fertilizer use (Raipur district
    - 75 kg/ha, Dantewada district -1.26 kg/ha)

6
  • Major constraints in fixing and achieving higher
    targets
  • Inadequate extension machinery, lower mobility in
    hilly and inaccessible areas.
  • Low awareness level among farmers especially in
    tribal areas.
  • Low capital investment capability of majority of
    the farmers
  • (Marginal and small farmers constitute gt 72 of
    farming families)

7
  • Crop Production Targets for Rabi 2004-05
  • Crop area target 17.93 lakh ha.
    (8.6 higher than last
    years achievement.)
  • Cereals 2.35 lakh ha.
  • Pulses 9.38 lakh ha.
  • Oilseeds 4.60 lakh ha.
  • Sugarcane others 1.60 lakh ha.
  • Total 17.93 lakh ha.

8
  • Crop Production Targets for Rabi 2004-05
  • Crop Production Target - 13.35 lakh tonnes.
    (13 higher than last years
    achievement.)
  • Cereals 3.93 lakh tonnes
  • Pulses 6.08 lakh tonnes
  • Oilseeds 2.68 lakh tonnes
  • Sugarcane others 0.66 lakh tonnes
  • Total 13.35 lakh tonnes

9
  • Programmes and strategies for achieving the
    results
  • Major emphasis on Quality Seed Distribution.
  • Seed distribution target is 16500 quintals which
is nearly 35 higher than last years seed
    distribution.
  • Encouraging higher level of Fertilizer use.
  • Target for fertilizer use is 25.5 kg/ha which is
6.2 higher than last years achievement.
  • Soil testing facilities to be utilized fully.
  • Supply of urea in small bags (5 25 kg) is being
    proposed in tribal areas.

10
  • Programmes and strategies for achieving the
    results
  • Emphasis on Integrated Nutrient and Pest
    Management.
  • Two villages in each development block have been
    selected as organic villages.
  • Use of vermi-compost, Nadep compost, green
manuring and distribution of microbial culture
such as PSB, Azotobacter, Rhizobium being
    undertaken.
  • Bio-pesticides introduced on a significant scale.
  • Emphasis on pest control measures only at
    Economic Threshold Level (ETL).

11
  • Programmes and strategies for achieving the
    results
  • Accelerated Technology Transfer Mission (ATTM)
  • More emphasis on optimum plant population,
    seed-treatment, intercropping, line-sowing,
weedicide use and zero tillage cultivation to
    conserve soil moisture.
  • Emphasis on Crop Diversification
  • Increasing area under double cropping system.
  • Emphasis on utilizing conserved soil moisture.
  • Pulses, Oilseeds, Vegetables high value
    Medicinal/ Herbal plant cultivation being
    encouraged.

NEW INTERVENTIONS BEST PRACTICES
13
Name of Scheme Balanced and Integrated Use
of Fertilizers New Intervention Purchase of Soil
Testing Kits WHY REQUIRED ? Insufficient and
imbalanced use of chemical fertilizer.
Present consumption 38.72 kg per ha (Ratio
- NPK. 8 3 1)   Highest 75.20 kg./ ha
(Raipur) Lowest 1.26 kg./ ha(Dantewada)
Fertility status of soils of Chhattisgarh
Low to medium
14
Name of Scheme Balanced and Integrated Use
of Fertilizers New Intervention Purchase of Soil
Testing Kits WHY REQUIRED ? Four soil testing
labs in the state having analysis capacity of
40,000 soil samples per year for about 20,000
villages in the state.   Distance from the field
to lab is more.       To obtain quick results
through soil testing kits. To increase
awareness of the farmers about the importance
of soil testing.    200 soil testing kits are
being procured during 2004-05 for which Rs. 2.20
lakh is earmarked.
15
Name of Scheme Production of High Yielding
and Quality Seed New Intervention Seed
Village Programme. WHY REQUIRED ?   10-25
yield increase by using HYV and quality seed.
Present Seed Replacement Ratio (SRR) of the
state is less. (Paddy-1.5 , Arhar 7.84,
Urd-2.32, Wheat- 5.25, Gram-1.46,)
Procurement from out side A costly affair.
Seed village programme Only solution for
supply of HYV quality seeds at reasonable
price.
