Grade 5 Latin America Research

• The students will use multiple resources to
  locate information to create and designing an
  alphabet book to demonstrate an understanding for
  an assigned Latin American Country. The student
  will select relevant and accurate information
  when researching a topic. The students will
  takes notes and summarize important information.
  Students will create a bibliography to credit
  creators of information from a variety of
  formats. Students will practice evaluating their
  research project. Students will understand the
  requirements for an alphabet picture book.
  Celebrations will end with a fiesta including a
  sharing of the alphabet books. The students will
  express ideas clearly by using supporting detail.
  Students will investigate a country to develop
  and understand Geography, Culture, Religion,
  Government, Entertainment, Technology, Economy
  Land and Climate.

The SLMS has prepared a foundation for use of the
sources but discusses the resources and helps
students understand how a variety of sources can
help them in researching their country.

Latin America Photo Gallery
The SLMS conducts the main research lessons with
collaborative support from the classroom teacher
and additional parent volunteers. Guest speakers
and Scotia High School students shared a book
project on an intergenerational level to engage
students. This collaborative project takes
approximately 4 weeks to complete.
