4CO-OP EDUCATION
- Usually a two-credit course
- Course occurs during Periods 12(AM co-op) or
Periods 34(PM co-op) - Students must provide their OWN TRANSPORTATION
- Students can supply possible business or work
contacts for PLACEMENTS, but usually co-op
teachers try to find placements for students

- Any Grade 11 or 12 student
- Any student who has AN IDEA or IDEAS of a
possible career they want to explore - Marks are not an essential part of the selection
process what is essential is - - ATTENDANCE

- HOW DO YOU APPLY FOR CO-OP?
- During the online course selection process choose
co-op using the codes - COP 3XA for Grade 11s
- COP 4XA for Grade 12s
- Fill out a CO-OP APPLICATION FORM, available
after this presentation, ONLINE, or you can pick
one up in the MAIN OFFICE - Hand in your completed application in the MAIN
OFFICE

- HOW WILL YOU KNOW IF YOUVE BEEN ACCEPTED INTO
CO-OP? - Once your application is in, you will be
INTERVIEWED by a co-op teacher - Co-op must FIT in your schedule with your other
course selections - Acceptance will depend on your CHOICE OF
PLACEMENT, ATTENDANCE RECORD, etc. - If accepted, co-op teachers will find an
appropriate placement for you

High School and work in collaboration with
St.Clair College - This program only runs if there is sufficient
interest and a class can be formed from all
interested students in our school board

- Beginning Careers In Construction
- If accepted you will attend F.J. Brennan High
School and take classes there, then do your co-op
work on construction sites - This is a FOUR PERIOD co-op that takes place
during SECOND SEMESTER each year - If taken in Gr. 11 a TWO YEAR program can be
completed during second semester each year
16OTHER KINDS OF EXPERIENTIALLEARNING?
- School to Work Coop
- These are either 3 or 4-credit co-op
courses(both have a regular in-class component to
them) - These students usually leave high school and
enter directly into the world of work, hopefully
getting jobs from their co-op placements - You can indicate interest in SCHOOL TO WORK
CO-OP on the experiential learning application
form, but still must choose either COP 3XA or COP
4XA when registering online

3. What is a monitor visit?
A visit at your place of work by the co-op teacher
4. What about attendance?
Attendance along with punctuality are VERY
IMPORTANT!
- 5. What about evaluation?
Activities in class and LOG sheets, but mostly by
performance at your placement

- TWO CREDIT co-op first time, that could lead to
more credits in the future - Two weeks of PRE-PLACEMENT
- Minimum of 2 1/2 HOURS PER DAY, 5 days a week
either PERIOD 12 or 34 - Midterm Final EMPLOYER EVALUATIONS
- LOGS of hours worked every two weeks
- Five INTEGRATION DAY learning sessions
- JOB FAIR SHOWCASE display
