In the beginning...

• When Terry was eighteen, he was diagnosed with
  bone cancer in his left knee.
• The cancer soon moved past his knee, and his leg
  had to be amputated fifteen centimeters above his
  knee.

Three years later...

• Three years later, he decided he would run across
  Canada to raise money for cancer research with
  his left, artificial leg.

The Marathon of Hope

• Terry started at St. Johns, Newfoundland, and he
  began what he called, the Marathon of Hope.
• He ran forty-three kilometres a day, starting on
  April 12, 1980.

Stopping,

• He had covered 5,376 kilometers, when he had a
  recurrence of cancer which forced him to stop
  just outside of Thunder Bay, Ontario, on
  September 1st.

Worse

• Terry Fox grew worse and worse every day.
• Terry soon lost his battle with bone cancer. He
  died on June 28th, 1981, and never finished his
  Marathon of Hope.

Millions of dollars

• Terrys Marathon had raised about 25 million
  dollars for cancer research.
• The Terry Fox foundation is headed by Darrel,
  Terrys brother.

Every year

• Every year around the world, people have a Terry
  Fox run.
• The run raises about 270 million dollars per
  year.

Schools

• In schools around the world, like ours, kids help
  set up a track for the run.
• Our school raises money, and provides drinks for
  us.

Terry Fox inspires millions and billions of
people still today.
