10. Computer Aided Instructional Software
Current software provides instruction, forces
higher level thinking, offers practice, and
applies concepts to real-world applications.
Virtual teachers do not replace live classroom
teachers.
Rarely do students benefit from computer aided
instructional software as the only method of
delivery.

9. Visual Imagery for Stories with Stipulations
Visual images engage the imagination
Write a sentence describing what you saw but
wait, you cannot use any words that contain the
letter e.
Stories with stipulations create challenge and
force the brain to search for alternate or
parallel paths
Stipulations may be framed in the positive or in
the negative

Ground Rules for Texting
  • Check local board policy.
  • Limit all texts to 160 characters (including
    spaces).
  • Determine appropriate text (or short-hand)
words and phrases for school context.
  • Teach students to distinguish between the
contexts in which text (or short-hand) is
appropriate and those for which it is
    inappropriate.

25
Ground Rules for Texting
  • Encourage use in classrooms for appropriate
    activities
  • Summarize using text.
  • Translate between text and commonly accepted
    grammar and usage structures.
  • Take class notes in text.
  • Participate in round-table text discussion.

Retell this story using text
  • Students at Lincoln Middle School are making
    incredible academic improvements. This year,
eighty-five percent of students scored at the
Satisfactory level on the state math test (as
opposed to only sixty-three percent last year).
In addition, ninety percent of students are
reading on grade level according to the state
tests. Improvement in the school has been so
great for the last two years that Lincoln Middle
School will no longer be identified on the
states No Child Left Behind School Improvement
List. We commend Lincoln Middle School faculty
and students for their hard work and success.

Must Haves when Acquiring Technology
  • Purpose!
  • Technology purchases must meet the needs of the
    district/school, support instruction, and meet
the requirements of the funding stream.
  • Power!
  • If the technology purchase does not make
instruction more effective, you do not need it.
  • Professional Development!
  • Without training, any technology purchase will
become just another piece of cool equipment.
