Title: OSCAR AND ALPHONSE BY EMILY SAUR
1OSCAR AND ALPHONSE BY EMILY SAUR
2Jessica Wenberg lived in the woods in a log cabin
with her cranky aunt. Her mom and dad died when
she was 3 years old and she missed them very
much. Her aunt made her do lots of work and never
let her leave the woods. Soon Jessica grew
lonely.
3She went out to pick blueberries so she could
make a blueberry pie for her aunts 30th
birthday. As she was picking blueberries, she
found 2 caterpillars. They looked and felt soft
and furry. Jessica named them after her fathers
first and middle names, Oscar and Alphonse.
4She noticed the caterpillars were hungry so she
fed them beans from the bean tree growing in the
forest. They were magic beans and the tree was a
magic tree! After eating the magic beans, Oscar
and Alphonse could wiggle words on her hand.
They wiggled Thank you on her hand.
5Jessica told Alphonse and Oscar she was unhappy
and wanted to live with someone nicer. They
wrote this on her hands. Go to the front of the
woods and when you see a lumber truck yell Im
lost! And the man will stop and adopt you.
6She did as she was told, and sure enough the next
day it happened just as Alphonse and Oscar said
it would. Jessica had a happy life with new
father, the lumberjack.
7Many years later she knew it was time to send
Alphonse and Oscar back. The caterpillars softly
wiggled in her hand spelling out goodbye.
