What is Autism?
  • A developmental disability
  • affects verbal and nonverbal communication
  • social interaction,
  • engagement in repetitive activities and
    stereotyped movements,
  • resistance to environmental change, or change in
    daily routines.
  • unusual responses to sensory experiences

What is ABA?
  • Most widely known therapy used with Children with
    Autism
  • About the rules for setting up the environment to
    enable our kids to learn.
  • Used to teach new skills and reinforce skills
    that have already been learned.
  • Child is given reinforcers following a targeted
    behavior

Purposes
  • The purpose of this study was to see if teachers
    feel they are qualified in the training of Autism
    and ABA, if they feel they are not, are they
    willing to learn?

  • We assumed
  • Lack of knowledge regarding ABA
  • Have a 75 involvement rate
  • Veteran Teachers would be less cooperative than
    new teachers
  • All participants are truthful

  • Number of students with Autism

  • Willingness to get training in ABA

Conclusion
  • Teacher do not feel they have an understanding of
    Autism and ABA
  • They are learning more about Autism rather than
    the method of teaching Students with Autism
  • Most teachers believe the student can learn
  • They also believe in using a variety of methods
    to teach students with Autism but are not
    interested in learning about ABA
