NSMP Minimum Lunch Requirements
  • Offer an entrée an entrée is a single food item
    or a combination of foods served as the main dish
  • Offer fluid milk as a beverage
  • Offer at least one side dish may be any food
    item except a condiment or a food of minimal
    nutritional value that is not part of a menu item
  • Planned meals must meet nutrition standards

OVS Requirements for NSMP
  • Students must take full servings (as determined
    by the menu planner) for the items to count
    toward a reimbursable meal. Students may take
    smaller portions of the declined items however,
    the smaller portions do not count towards a
    reimbursable meal

Serving Sizes for OVS under NSMP
  • Because there are no prescribed serving sizes
    for NSMP, the the planned serving sizes become
    the required serving sizes for a reimbursable
    meal and for OVS. If an amount smaller than the
    planned serving size is served, the menu item
    cannot count toward meeting the meal requirements
    under OVS.

NSMP OVS Guidelines -NSLP
  • SFA must offer at least three menu items
  • Students must select at least two of the three
    menu items
  • Students MUST ALWAYS take the entrée

  • When more than three items are offered students
    may decline no more than two menu items,
    regardless of the number of menu items offered
  • All menu items offered for a reimbursable meal
    are priced as a unit

Program (SBP)
  • Three menu items must be offered milk and at
    least other menu items
  • Offer fluid milk as a beverage
  • Offer at least two menu items except a condiment
    or a food minimal nutritional value that is not
    part of a menu item

NSMP OVS Requirements -SBP
  • Students may decline a maximum of one menu item
    out of the three or more required menu items
    offered
  • No requirement for students to choose a specific
    menu item

  • Any two other foods except a food of minimal
    nutritional value
  • All items must be offered prior to the
    point-of-service
  • (Entrees are NOT required at breakfast)
