Title: Law Versus Grace
1Law Versus Grace
- Why Grace In Christ Is So Much Better
2An Abused Passage
- Gal 518 - But if you are led by the Spirit, you
are not under the law. NKJV - The law that would condemn the works of the flesh
- Those led by the Spirit do not practice those
things the law condemns - They are not under the law, nor the laws
condemnation - The Spirit does not allow immoral behavior
3Another Abused Passage
- Rom 614-15
- For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you
are not under law but under grace. - 15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not
under law but under grace? Certainly not! NKJV - Thus, being under grace does not give us liberty
to practice SIN. - But, in what way are we not under law?
4Under LAW versus Under GRACE
- The Old Testament prophesied of the GRACE
- Rejection of the prophecies leaves one with LAW
ONLY - Law condemns sinners it does not save sinners
- Unbelieving Jews have LAW ONLY
- The New Testament Reveals the Grace
- Acceptance of the grace takes one out from under
condemnation of law - Christians have freedom from SIN (grace)
5Under LAW versus Under GRACE
- Must keep it all to be acceptable
- Demands meritorious works
- If kept, man has right to boast
- Mans reward is earned by own merit
- Acceptability is not earned. It is unmerited
favor - Favor through submissive faith
- Man enters upon confession of his failings
- Mans reward is freely given by Gods mercy
6Under LAW versus Under GRACE
- To fail while rejecting the prophesied grace is
to stay under law and its death penalty - All are under condemnation
- We are not trying to EARN the reward. We are
trying to exercise faith to stay in His grace - Since grace is received through faith, then there
is no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus
7WHO WILL DELIVER ME?
- Shall the LAW deliver me?
- Shall my perfect works deliver me?
- Thank God, through Jesus Christ
Rom 721-82 21 I find then a law, that evil is
present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22
For I delight in the law of God according to the
inward man. 23 But I see another law in my
members, warring against the law of my mind, and
bringing me into captivity to the law of sin
which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I
am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?
25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our
Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the
law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. 8
There is therefore now no condemnation to those
who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk
according to the flesh, but according to the
Spirit.
8Which is Better?
- Stay condemned by your failings?
- Accept Gods free gift in Christ on His terms of
faith? - Terms of Faith
- Conviction of sins
- Faith in Jesus Christ that
- Repents of sins
- Confesses faith in Jesus
- Calls upon the Lord in Baptism in His Name
