Title: Positive Vibes Seeds
1Positive Vibes Seeds Roots Program
- Making One Leader At A Time
2About The Positive Vibes Foundation
Founded by comedian Griffy2K, Positive Vibes is a
nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring
boys to emerge as strong leaders in their
communities through mentoring, open and honest
dialogue and exposure to the endless
possibilities available through the power of
positive thinking. At Positive Vibes, we
celebrate the innovation and energy of the
so-called bad kids, and believe that through
the guidance to positively refocus this energy,
these same youth have the potential to lead and
succeed.
- Our mission is to Make One Leader At A Time
among boys ages 9-18 by promoting academic
achievement, encouraging personal development,
allowing second chances and providing inspiration
through exposure to various career paths and
positive community leaders.
3Positive Vibes Seeds Roots Program
- The Positive Vibes Seeds and Roots program will
create student leaders who will assist with
spreading the Positive Vibes message to their
peers through improv comedy taught by comedian
and Positive Vibes CEO Griffy2K. - Program Components
- 25-30 students will be selected to participate at
each school - At least five students in the program must be
students identified as having behavioral problems
and/or poor grades - If more than 30 students apply for the program,
an essay contest will be used to select
participants - Students will participate in 6 weeks of
leadership development sessions while learning
the secrets of performing and improv comedy. A
portion of the curricula during the sessions will
involve comedy skits and acting, and the students
will then spend two weeks developing a comedic
presentation for their peers based on all theyve
learned. - The performance will occur at a school assembly
and/or PTA meeting - Students who complete the program will continue
to participate and assume leadership roles among
the next cycle of students who enter the program - Students in the program will be required to
identify one positive change they intend to make
in their schools, and will have the entire school
year to lead the change. Another ceremony will be
held towards the end of the school year to
recognize students whove implemented the
identified changes
4Leadership Development Sessions
- Week One - Discovering The Leader In You
- Guided discussion will help each participating
student identify their unique personality traits
and leadership styles. Students will be required
to recite the Positive Vibes Seeds Roots pledge
and identify one positive change they want to
implement at their school. - Week Two No One Cares!
- Often times youth display an apathetic attitude
towards positive messages because of peer
pressure and environmental factors. This session
will allow students to discuss examples of being
discouraged about behaving positively while
providing tools to respond to peer pressure and
stay motivated as leaders in their communities. - Week Three Write The Vision
- This session will take each participant through
the planning process for implementing the changes
identified in Session One. Each student will be
required to identify at least five steps or tasks
that will be completed to reach the identified
goal - Week Four Relationship Drama
- Its a challenge to be an effective teen leader,
but it gets even stickier when romantic and
familial relationships are a factor. This session
will address how to establish healthy
relationships, and how to sustain positive social
and academic growth in spite of any relationship
drama. - Week Five So Whats It All Mean?
- This session will recap the various topics
covered during the previous sessions and require
each student to identify tangible ways that the
various principles and tools learned will be
applied to their daily lives and shared with
their peers. - Week Six Positive Vibes Seeds Roots
Graduation Initiation - Students will be honored at a dinner for their
completion of the program
5Program Goals Objectives
- The core goal of the program is to positively
impact participating students attitudes toward
education to meet the following quantifiable and
intangible goals - Increasing responsibility and accountability by
making regular attendance a requirement for
program participation - Promoting strong academic performance by
providing incentives, including laptop computers
for the top three most improved students
participating in the program - Providing an outlet for the creative ideas and
energy of participating youth to decrease
interactions with faculty for behavioral
infractions - Improving problem-solving skills through
thoughtful group discussions to decrease
altercations in the classroom between students - Improving self-confidence and communications
skills through public speaking and performances
to encourage more class participation - Developing youth leadership skills through
extracurricular activities - Leadership in extracurricular activities has been
found to be more highly correlated with adult
leadership. A 10-year study conducted with 515
high school student leaders revealed that almost
two-thirds of them participated in out-of-school
organizations and athletics and more than half
participated in fine arts activities.
