1
How To Write a Good OTM!
  • ONEONTA NRHH
  • Spring 2007

2
What is an OTM?
  • Of The Month Awards recognize outstanding
contributions to college residence halls in the
    past month
  • Awarded by National Residence Hall Honorary
    (NRHH)
  • http//www.nrhh.org/
  • NRHH is part of NEACURH which is part of NACURH
  • http//www.nacurh.org/

3
Who can write one?
  • ANYONE!
  • If someone you know went above and beyond in the
past month and you feel like they deserve some
    recognition,
  • NOMINATE THEM!!

4
To Download the forms
  • Go to http//www.oneonta.edu/development/reslife/n
    rhh/otm.asp
  • Download the General form or the Program form

    grow and learn?

    brings them together?

    hall govt

    people

Questions you may want to ask yourself
  • What did the person(s) do that particular month
    that was special?
  • Did I make it sound appealable to the reader?
    (proofread)
  • Did I define acronyms?
  • Is it under word count limit?
  • Did I think about possibly interviewing the
person to get more in depth info (if needed)?

9
About the Forms
  • Dont write only 4 sentences in the description
  • Dont leave any parts blank or it cant be
    submitted
  • The description should be in depth use creative
    describing words and emotion.
  • The summary should contain full sentences that
are to the point but not, I like Tom! instead
use Tom is an excellent role-model for students
    and staff. etc.

10
IMPORTANT
  • On each form where it asks for the person in
charge, I do not need the advisor or RHD unless
it is a organization or community being
    nominated.
  • It should ask for the nominee. When you nominate
please fill out ALL of the information about the
nominee including phone number, address, and
email So that the OTM coordinator doesnt have
to look up all of the information later.
  • Also, please dont send them in late. There is a
    reason there is a deadline.

11
Why should I write one?
  • To get involved
  • Partially helps with obtaining building of the
    year
  • Most importantly
  • Its fun and youll be putting a smile on
    someone elses face!
