Title: Backgrounds Information: progress

1
Backgrounds Informationprogress
  • Roger Barlow and Dave Bailey
  • (mostly Daves work)

2
PVSS
  • Set up system at Manchester
  • Makes development easier
  • Working remotely at CERN is possible but
    painfully slow
  • Learning will go on course when available
  • Set up duplicates of LHCCOM and LHCBBM

Just to show
Collimator position with trend lines
Working now on an overview panel using CAD
drawing of the beamline to integrate the expert
panels.
Will add correct position marks when we know
what they are

  • SIMULATION OF THE LHC COLLIMATION SYSTEM USING
    MERLIN

    Cockcroft Institute, United Kingdom
  • Abstract The LHC Collimators are designed to
remove halo par- ticles such that they do not
impinge onto either detectors or other vulnerable
regions of the storage ring. However, the very
high 7 TeV energy means that their design is
critical, as is the modelling of the absorption,
scattering and wake?eld effects upon the passing
bunches. Existing simulations are performed using
Sixtrack and K2. We report preliminary results
using the MERLIN code, which allows a fuller
description of the scattering and wake?eld
processes, and in principle other physics
    processes.

More questions
  • Are the vertical collimator positions available?
  • Are there other projects we should be running to
    make datapoints available?
  • Are there any diagrams of BLS etc? Would be
useful to know the layout in order to make
    sensible panels.
  • Is there documentation on which datapoint to read
    out to get rates etc?

6
Future
  • DB and RB will be out for the Wed-Fri part of
    this meeting
  • Further trips planned (June 15-19 for RB) short
    and longer term
