- Licensing,
- Certification and
- Labeling Issues
3Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
- Should these systems be used in NYS?
- If Allowed,
- Homeowner or Commercial?
- If Commercial, who is applying the pesticide?
- If Commercial, should they be Restricted Use
Products?
4Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
- New York State can license the pesticide, but it
has no authority to regulate systems, - However commercial application of a pesticide
requires a certified applicator. - Certification Category 8 - Public health
5Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
- must be programmed so as not to activate and or
release pesticides when people, pets, food, or
feed are present.
6Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
A rain sensor and a wind sensor should be
installed on the system to control drift and
runoff.
7Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
The system reservoir tank should be locked and a
legible copy of the label securely attached to
the system reservoir tank,
8Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
For best results, set the timer to activate at
dusk or dawn when mosquitoes are most active. No
more than three (3) evening applications per day
are recommended.
9Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
During the day, manually activate and deactivate
the automatic spray system 30 minutes to an hour
before outdoor activity is planned.
10Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
Then fill the rest of the tank with water and
agitate well.
11Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
System nozzles should deliver fine particle size
droplets (aerosol or mist). Nozzles should be
rated for a delivery rate not to exceed 1.25
fluid ounces of solution per minute,
12Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
Since high water temperatures can degrade
pyrethrins, it is recommended that system tanks
be sheltered or insulated from direct exposure to
the sun.
13Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
Use of an EPA approved antimicrobial agent is
also recommended.
14Automatic Mosquito Misting Systems
Avoid setting up system nozzles in a manner that
delivers spray solution into swimming pools or
pools containing fish and other organisms that
may be sensitive to Pyrethrins.
