- Set up as an executive non government body July
2007 - Responsible for Governments Technology Programme
- Guided by a business-led Governing Board
- Sponsored by DIUS
- Funded by Government, Research Councils, DAs and
RDAs. - Budget 1bn over 3 years
- Staff of around 75 people
- Based in Swindon (with desks in London)
4Role and Objectives
- To promote and support research into, and the
development and exploitation of technology for
business benefit for economic growth and quality
of life - To deliver a programme of financial support to
encourage business investment in and use of
technology - To provide leadership to Central Regional
Government and Research Councils on technological
developments and innovation of importance to UK
business - To advise Government on areas where barriers
exist to the exploitation of new technologies -
and put forward recommendations for removing them

- A clear role for the Technology Strategy Board
- Add value identifying and addressing barriers,
critical policy challenges, lever in other public
funds, raise engagement, cross-government

- To help small/micro companies develop ideas
- Must be lead by a creative SME company
- To support exploitation of Technology
- Administratively light - monthly application
assessment - Beneficiaries must be UK based

- Leading to new products, services, experiences,
capability or - Increasing the competitive advantage of existing
ones - Entry into the supply chain within 2-5 yrs of
completion - Demonstration that you understand your market

industries - Or where there are no long tail benefits to a
creative company - Things that youre going to do anyway
- Projects where UK economy will not be the primary
beneficiary.
14Feasibility Studies
- Grant up to 15k _at_ 75 contribution(20k
projects) - Buy in outside skills/expertise to
- Assess technical feasibility
- Develop early prototypes
- Assess market potential
- Buy machine time
- To develop business case, early demonstrator or
proof of principle - NB Does not fund proposal applications for
other public sector schemes or capital investment
