Updating via Email

• Send to Show_at_isd.csa.scot.nhs.uk
• Mistakes do happen - Human Error
• Incremental Zips are preferred
• Time Delay due to updates being done manually
• Updates received before noon up before 4pm
• Files are not removed
• Rename ABC.zip to ABC.xyz (Virus scanners)
• Limited to lt 6 MB attachments

• Only available on the NHSnet
• Most Popular method for updating sites
• Fast
• Poor Security (But we trust the NHSnet ? )

Update via Secure Shell (SSH)

• Only used in special cases
• Currently works to the Internet Server only
• Very Slow
• But Secure
• Allows you to update your site from home

File Replication. NHSnet gt Internet

• Keeping your sites in Sync.
• Trigger Files zzzzz.txt or updatenow.txt
• email summary sent on completion.
• Deletes files / directories.
• No Human Error apart from your own.

Databases

• Support both Access and MS SQL databases
• There are dedicated SQL Servers on both the
  NHSnet and Internet.
• ODBC DSN less Connections to SQL Server or
  Access databases can be setup on request.

SQL Server Replication

• SHOW has been trialling SQL server replication
  between the NHSnet and Internet SQL Server for
  about 5 Months.
• experimenting with third parties to chain
  multiple SQL Servers together.
• Ideal for content management system.
• Allows Administration to be limited to NHSnet !

Site Access / Log Reports

• Website access reports are done monthly.
• Collecting the log files takes time.
• Processing all the Log files takes a few days.
• If you require detailed reports then
• We need the start and end date
• Online Web Version (Coming soon).

• Data is backup nightly onto Tape.
• Tapes are secured of site.
• Disks Imaging is preformed monthly for fast bare
  metal server recovery.

Coming Soon.

• New Web Servers for both the NHSnet Internet
  are being setup in the next few weeks.
• Dual 2.8Ghz Xeon, 1.5Gb Ram.
• They will be running Windows Server 2003 IIS 6
• More Stable
• Compression has been improved meaning that
  webpage load times will be improved.
• A new version of the replication software has
  also be setup that will allow rollback of updates
  to be performed.
