Dealing With Debt
Proverbs 227

Introduction There has been a lot of discussion
about borrowing money. Some have quoted Rom.
138 out of context, Owe no man anything....
Their conclusion has been that it is never right
to borrow money. Certainly there have been times
in scripture where God commanded His people to
borrow.

The children of Israel were instructed to borrow
from the Egyptians.
God cancelled their debt by drowning the
Egyptians. Elijah told the widow woman to go
borrow vessels. In the parable of the talents,
the servant borrowed five talents and later
brought back five more.

Historically, people refused to allow
themselves to borrow money.
It was not until 1945 that people considered
borrowing beyond 7 years for a mortgage. The
maximum car loan was only 18 months. Credit
cards were non-existent then. Prior to WW II, 97
of the homes were paid for in cash.

Our nation survived a depression because our
morals about being in debt were intolerant of
todays standards.
Today, the average family is only days away from
bankruptcy.

Debt is the leading cause for broken homes.
A new theology of pragmatism has replaced truth
and common sense. We need to get back to a
Biblical authority of stewardship.

How does a person get into Debt?
1.) Desire - for things we do not need or that
is not in the will of God. - selfishness
causes our desires to get out of control. -
when our emotions take control our self respect
goes down the drain.

2.) Deception - we are deceived about our needs
and wants.
I need it now Wrong! Wrong! - we talk
ourselves into needing something because of our
own discontentment. - we are deceived
about credit . There is no such thing as 0
financing. 3.) Doubt - we doubt that God
could provide our need.

4.) Decision - we purchase something we know
that will have difficulty paying back.
5.) Delay - we reuse to delay our purchase,
convincing ourselves well catch up next
month 6.) Disobedience- we get ahead of God .
Well even co-sign to help others to get ahead of
God.

7.) Damage - Our Christian testimony is damaged
when we are slow paying our debt.
How does a person get out of Debt? 1.)
Conviction - that debt is not the will of God for
your life. Proverbs 227 2.) Confession -
confess that you are sorry for the damage done to
your testimony.

3.) Commitment - dont just talk about getting
out of debt. Be courageous! Have a sacrificial
spirit and make it
happen.
4.) Confidence - believe that God will guide
you out of debt. 5.) Cooperation - Husband and
wife both must work together Amos 33.
Equal Sacrifice. Shine!

6.) Construct - set up a budget.
7.) Change - Change your spending habits.
Change your priorities. Sell some of your
assets. 8.) Counsel - make yourself accountable
to an another authority

9.)      Contribution - Keep tithing. I
Corinthians 96 You cannot disobey God in one
area and expect Gods continued blessings in
other areas.
10.) Consistency - Dont just try it for a
month, then go to the mall because youve held
out. Conclusion All of us have a sin debt.
Jesus paid our sin debt. Allow him to control
your life. Accept His payment for your sins.
