• Sylvar, a for-profit company to be incorporated
  in New Brunswick, is capitalizing on new
  technology and its unique positioning, to seize
  the growing opportunity to develop, produce and
  sell environmentally-friendly, safe and effective
  tools to combat forest insect pests.
• At inception, FPL will be the majority
  shareholder of Sylvar, with its co-founder,
  BioAtlantech, being a minority shareholder
• Sylvar benefits from an exclusive license from
  CFS on its launch product, a baculovirus for the
  balsam fir sawfly.
• Sylvar will mobilize a captive demand for its
  core product on a serious, large-scale
  infestation in NFL, and several smaller outbreaks
  across Eastern Canada
• SYLVARs launch product anticipates profitability
  within two years, and will be investing in
  additional technology acquisition

Mission To provide baculovirus bio-pesticides
for significant markets in aerially applied
management of forest pests.
Immediate objective for 2006, to manufacture and
market a registered baculovirus for Balsam Fir
Sawfly, for which there is a receptive market of
several tens of thousands of hectares.

Core technology

• A baculovirus - specifically a nucleopolyhedroviru
  s (NPV)
• A technology developed by Lucarotti-Kettela team
  at Atlantic Forestry Centre
• 10 years of RD to bring to registration 5 M
• NPV baculoviruses are ideal candidates for forest
  pest management since they are effective, and so
  host-specific that they are often free of impact
  on non-target organisms.
• The use of NPV as bio-pesticides induces
  epizootics
