Background of the Organization
  • Hiwot Ethiopia is a youth focused organization
  • Established in 1995 as a club
  • Registered as association in 1997-Addis Ababa
  • Registered in 2001 as a non government
    organization-Federal Government

  • Hiwot works in promotion of SRH, HIV/AIDS, Gender
    (Masculinity) and Right issues.
  • The organization strategically works on the
    rights based approach focusing on Child Rights
  • Currently it works in the five sub cities of
    Addis Ababa and Merhabate - Amhara Region
  • Hiwot leads a Youth to Youth ASRH Addis Network.

Rationale for the establishment of Hiwot Ethiopia
  • The versatile Youth problems drawn in the
    economy, social and cultural well-being , and.
  • The particular situation of SRH and HIV/AIDS
    among young generation.
  • The national and global favorable ground laid
    down to involve youth participation in the
    development process (CRC)

Vision
  • Hiwot envisages a society where by all people in
    Ethiopia, in particular, youngsters exercise
    their full right to be free from HIV/AIDS and
    Sexual and Reproductive Health hazard.

Mission
  • The organization mission involves in promotion
    of young peoples sexual and reproductive health
    issues and rights through -
  • Advocate for Full Rights of young people
  • Maximize its effort in the provision of target
    oriented gender sensitive IECBCC, Counseling and
    referral services on SRH HIVAIDS, RIGHTS issues
    and services
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and build strong
    network
  • Build institutional capacity for the realization
    of responsive organization

Goals
  • Advocate for the full right of young people to be
    free from HIV/AIDS and Sexual and Reproductive
    Health hazard.
  • Maximize its effort in the provision of target
    oriented and Gender sensitive information,
    education, counseling and referral services on
    SRH and HIV/AIDS for under served young people.

  • Commit it self to collaborate with all its stake
    holders and build strong net-work with donor
    agencies and partner organizations working for
    the empowerment of young people.
  • Strives to build its institutional capacity for
    the realization of strong and responsive
    association.

Management
  • The general assembly has a supreme power on
    matters of the organization.
  • The Executive board is responsible for the
    strategic direction of the organization.
  • The Executive director undertakes the overall
    direct management of the administration and
    program areas

    permanent staffs working on different projects
  • Administration and Finance section has 5 staff
    members.
  • 64 Young people and 30 adults ( parents) are
    working voluntarily with Hiwot on different
    activities

    apart from educating the community

    based HIV AIDS SRH interventions.
  • In general Hiwot has Remarkably implemented youth
    advocacy , service and awareness program in its
    project area.

Challenges
  • The fast growing youth unemployment rate and
    burning demand for livelihood projects.
  • Lack of human, material and technical Resources
    in line with the dynamics and complexity of
    SRH,HIV/AIDS ,Rights and Gender issues
  • The ever growing tools and systems to go parallel
    with the changes.
  • Unable to meet the diverse needs of service
    facilities demanded by grass-root community
    particularly young people.

Future program
  • Hiwot plans to integrate educational and carrier
    development program with in the current and
    linked SRH, HIVAIDS , Gender (Masculinity) Based
    Child Rights projects.
  • Hiwot Plans to strengthen a comprehensive Youth
    Friendly Zone to meet the ever growing service
    demand of various young people.
