Title: What If I Stumble what if I Fall

1
I can't do that because,
What If I Stumble what if I Fall?
2
One of the greatest myths in Christianity today
is that you have to be in a state of perfection
before you serve God. That if you arent perfect
or if you have problems, then you should not be
active in Christian Service. Now it is true that
having un-confessed sin in your life will hinder
our spiritual growth, we will never reach
perfection, but God can still use you, even if
you stumble or fall.

And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter
of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

came in unto him, and he lay with her for she
was purified from her uncleanness and she
returned unto her house. for she... or, and
when she had purified herself, etc, she

and told David, and said, I am with child. 6
And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the
Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David. 7 And
when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of
him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how
the war prospered. how Joab... Heb. of the

down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah
departed out of the king's house, and there

10 And when they had told David, saying, Uriah
went not down unto his house, down unto thine
house? 11 And Uriah said unto David, The ark,
and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents and my
lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are
encamped in the open fields shall I then go into
mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with
my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth,
I will not do this thing. 12 And David said to
Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I
will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem
that day, and the morrow. 13 And when David had
called him, he did eat and drink before him and
he made him drunk and at even he went out to lie
on his bed with the servants of his lord, but
went not down to his house. 14 And it came to
pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to
Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah. 15 And
he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in
the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire
ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.
hottest Heb. strong from him Heb. from after
him 16 And it came to pass, when Joab observed
the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place
where he knew that valiant men were.

24 And the shooters shot from off the wall upon
thy servants and some of the king's servants be
dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead
also. 25 Then David said unto the messenger,
Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing
displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as
well as another make thy battle more strong
against the city, and overthrow it and encourage
thou him. 26 And when the wife of Uriah heard
that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for
her husband. 27 And when the mourning was past,
David sent and fetched her to his house, and she
became his wife, and bare him a son. But the
thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

We have to make small sacrifices for the good of
all

The Cost
9 Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of
the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast
killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast
taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him
with the sword of the children of Ammon. 10 Now
therefore the sword shall never depart from thine
house because thou hast despised me, and hast
taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy
wife. 11 Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will
raise up evil against thee out of thine own
house, and I will take thy wives before thine
eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he
shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this
sun. 12 For thou didst it secretly but I will
do this thing before all Israel, and before the
sun. 13 And David said unto Nathan, I have
sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto
David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin thou
shalt not die. 14 Howbeit, because by this deed
thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of
the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is
born unto thee shall surely die.

Hes Dead
18 And it came to pass on the seventh day, that
the child died. And the servants of David feared
to tell him that the child was dead for they
said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we
spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our
voice how will he then vex himself, if we tell
him that the child is dead? vex Heb. do hurt
19 But when David saw that his servants
whispered, David perceived that the child was
dead therefore David said unto his servants, Is
the child dead? And they said, He is dead.
10
God Still Uses David
24 And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and
went in unto her, and lay with her and she bare
a son, and he called his name Solomon and the
LORD loved him. 29 And David gathered all the
people together, and went to Rabbah, and fought
against it, and took it. 30 And he took their
king's crown from off his head, the weight
whereof was a talent of gold with the precious
stones and it was set on David's head. And he
brought forth the spoil of the city in great
abundance
11
  • David made a bad choice, he lusted after
bathsheba and then acted on that lust
  • It didnt matter she was married, he wanted her
    and so he took her
  • His sin was found out when bathsheba got
pregnant, This presented a problem since her
    husband was away at battle
  • David Plans on bringing him back giving him one
night and getting off the hook, that doesnt
work, so he sets plan b into action getting him
drunk and sending him home, that doesnt work
    either

12
  • Notice how Davids lies and trickery are getting
    worse and worse
  • David finally has Uriah sent into battle and then
basically left to fend for himself, when told of
his death, David merely mentions that some have
to die for the good of the majority
  • There was a cost for Davids Sin, he didnt get
away with it. He lost his young son, battles
would always be raged in his house, and his own
    family would turn against him

13
So, he just waited till he became perfect to do
Gods Work?
  • David saw his sin, he repented and asked
    forgiveness
  • He went and got involved in the battle, no more
    staying at home.
  • He gathered the people, he won the victory and he
    brought back the spoil

14
I like David because he is a guy that God calls a
Man after his own heart, but that was always
getting in trouble. It wasnt that he was a bad
guy it was that sometimes he made bad decisions.
When I look at Davids Life I will always see
Goliath, but Ill also see Bathsheba. The Result
of his wrong doing cost David, but it didnt stop
him. So, what if you stumble or Fall? Jesus said,
Confess you sins and he will forgive you of your
sins. That doesnt mean there will be no negative
results from your decision, but it does mean God
can still use you. David went out after this bad
situation and won the battle for the Lord. Dont
wait for perfection, if there is a problem in
your life, confess it before God, and go into the
battle. Be like David and win the War.
