Mission Statement
  • The Joplin Trails Coalition is dedicated to
    establish, maintain, and promote recreational
    trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding
    in Joplin and the surrounding area.
  • Through the use of our trails, we provide the
    opportunity for a healthy lifestyle and the
    beautification of our neighborhoods while
    enabling citizens to enjoy outdoor life in
    Missouri.

About the Frisco Greenway Trail
  • Established by Joplin Trails Coalition in 1991
  • Formerly part of St. Louis and San Francisco
    Railroads
  • 3.5 miles of trail from North Street in Joplin to
    Highway 171 in Webb City
  • Horseback Riding by permission
  • Parking on St. Louis Street near Zora and at the
    Freeman Clinic on Highway 171
  • Extension to downtown Joplin being added by the
    city of Joplin

About the Ruby Jack Trail
  • Acquired by JTC in September of 2004
  • 16 miles of trail from Carthage to Kansas State
    Line
  • Formerly part of the Burlington Northern Railroad
  • Runs through Oronogo and Carl Junction
  • Horseback riding is available
  • Parking at the intersection of Oak Street and old
    Highway 96 in Carthage, Oronogo Depot, Carl
    Junction Police Department, future parking at
    State Line road trail end
  • Planned Link to Oronogo Depot

  • Located at 412 East Central Street in downtown
    Oronogo
  • Over 100 years old
  • Formerly part of Southwest Missouri Electric
    Railway
  • Plan to connect depot to Ruby Jack Trail

  • Connects south end of the trail to Second and
    Main streets Downtown expansion

  • Conservation and Audubon Center
  • Starts on the west side of Wildcat Glades near
    South Main and runs along Shoal Creek to Jackson

Future Plans
  • A 29-mile stretch of abandoned railway from the
    south side of Carthage to Pierce City
  • Runs through Reeds, Sarcoxie and Wentworth along
    Highway 37
  • Development of Trail Communities similar to
    that of the Katy Trail
  • Connect Joplins Frisco Greenway to Ruby Jack
    Trail at Carl Junction, Webb City and Oronogo.

    reduction of obesity in children

    match) for phase 1 and 2 (5.5 miles)
