New K-4 Report Cards
  • An Overview of Standards-based Reporting and

that are aligned with Virginia Standards of
    Learning (SOLs) for grades K-4

students knowledge and skills to parents and
    other teachers
  • Separate knowledge goals from behavior goals,
    such as class participation

Why Standards-Based Reporting?
  • Standards-based report cards define what a
    student demonstrates as a learner.
  • Academic performance is assessed separately from
attendance and other behaviors that support
    learning.
  • Most schools across the U.S. are moving in the
    direction of assessing by standards.

4 Exceeds expectations of the standard In addition to mastery of the grade level expectations, the student makes in-depth inferences and applications that go beyond the expectations of the standard.
3 Fully meets the expectations of the standard When engaged in grade appropriate tasks, the student demonstrates a full understanding of the standard. The student exhibits no major errors or omissions.
2 Progressing towards the expectations of the standard The student exhibits major errors or omissions when engaged in grade appropriate tasks. However, the student is successful on tasks involving simpler details and processes associated with the standard.
1 Performing below the expectations of the standard With help or prodding, the student is still only partially successful with the simpler details and processes associated with the standard.
