regionally or nationally accredited schools - Authorized via DA Form 2171-E soldier will
submit approved form to the school

- Will pay tuition and limited fees
- Pay for private as well as state and public
schools provided they are accredited - Pay for Internet courses
- Activated Army Members with the exception of
officers will use ACES thru goarmyed.com
8STATE EDUCATION PROGRAMS
- Program authorized by Florida Statue FS 250.10
- Educational Dollars for Duty Program (EDD) - Pays
100 of tuition and fees - Available to Florida Army and Air National Guard
- Can be used with Chapter 30 Chapter 1606 and
1607MGIB benefits
9EDUCATIONAL DUTY FOR DOLLARS (EDD)
- 100 TUITION paid at State Community Colleges,
Universities and Vocational Technical Schools - Guardsmen who join the Florida National Guard for
the first time after 1 July 1997. - SMP, IST ISR are eligible.
- Less than 15 years total service.
- Non prior service must complete Basic AIT
training. - 5 Year time limit to use (clock begins upon
becoming eligible).
10EDD PROGRAM (CONT.)
- Use up to bachelors degree.
- 3 Year obligation after completion of degree or
certificate - Guard Members required to sign
agreement with service obligation. - GUARD MEMBERS REQUIRED TO BE IN GOOD STANDING
- EDD will pay for remedial classes
- EDD will not pay for master level classes - only
exception if required for undergraduate degree

- Multiple GI Bill Programs
- Each GI Bill Program has 36 months benefit
- Allowed a maximum of 48 months of benefit if
eligible for two or more GI Bill programs. - Each program still has a 36 month maximum
- Allowed to use one GI Bill Program per course
- Eligible Soldiers can possibly receive Kicker
with Chap 1606, Chap 1607, or Chap 30

that are mobilized under Contingency Operations
or National Emergencies - Mobilized for 90 days to 1 year 528.40
monthly - Mobilized for 1 year to under 2 years..792.60
monthly - Mobilized for over 2 years 1056.80 monthly
- Prorated for ¼ time, ½ time, ¾ time
students, etc. - Total potential package 38, 045

16New Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33)
- - Post-9/11 GI Bill, CH33 (New Active Duty GI
Bill) - Passed into law on 30 June 2008
- Effective date is 1 August 2009
- Benefit summary
- Members can make an irrevocable election to
switch from CH30 or CH1607 to CH33 when program
becomes effective. - Up to 15-years to use benefit after leaving
Active Duty. - No contribution from Service member to gain
program - Payment capped at highest tuition charges for
public institution of higher learning in the
state where the school is located (payment will
go to the College or University by lump-sum
payment versus monthly payment to the Soldier). - Transferability of benefits to Spouse or Children
at discretion of the Secretary of Defense

17Eligibility for Ch33
- Service members who enter Active Duty status for
90 days or longer after 11Sep2001 may gain this
new Chapter 33 GI Bill. (Initial Active Duty
Training does not count as Active Duty) - For Service members ordered to active duty under
USC section 688, 12301(a), 12301(d), 12301(g),
12302, or 12304. - This equates to T10 AGRs, T10 ADOS, T10 ADSW, T10
CO-TTAD, mobilizations, and those that join the
Active Component service post 9-11 or from other
military service in which they gained
eligibility.

18Benefit of Ch33
- There are five various payments / entitlements
reference new Ch 33 GI Bill - Payment to schools at start of school term, from
Dept of Veteran Affairs. (Pays schools invoice) - Payment to Individuals/Veteran up to 1,000
annual for books and supplies - Payment to Individuals/Veteran up to 1,200 for
Tutoring - Payment to Individuals/Veteran up to 500 for
PCS move to school - Payment to Individuals/Veteran for Lodging at
E-5 BAH rate for locality of School. (distance
learning courses do not qualify for BAH) (Service
members on Active Duty do not qualify for BAH)

- New GI Bill applies to Institutions of Higher
Learning (i.e. college programs only) does not
apply to the following - Technical or Vocational Courses
- Apprenticeship
- Job Training
- Flight Training
- High-tech Training
- Entrepreneurship Training
- Certain Entrance Examinations

21Transferability for Ch 33
- Transferability is not an entitlement like the
basic programs it is an option for DoD to
exercise, if they choose. - Transferability of benefits to Spouse and
Children is at discretion of SecDef in
collaboration with US Dept of Veteran Affairs - DoD workgroup is formulating plan for
transferability to include - Completing six years of service and sign
agreement (after 01Aug09) to serve at least four
more Spouse may use - Completing ten years of service (w/minimum of
four after 01Aug09) Children may use - Transferability is not retroactive to 9-11 like
the basic Ch 33 program thus, only those that
commit to 4-year Service Agreement after
01Aug2009 will be eligible for transferability or
broken down by Retirement eligible (between 0- 4
year commitment)
