The CHI model for NHS handling NICE guidance
  • CHI thinks NHS organisations should
  • know its been published and alert relevant staff
  • establish which teams it applies to
  • encourage and support these teams to RECORD, for
individual patients, where guidance NOT used, and
    WHY
  • encourage and support teams to review and discuss
this data (maybe producing local versions of the
    guidance)
  • make suitable financial and organisational
    arrangements
  • monitor all this at Board level

7
CGRs should encourage the CHI model through
  • early assessment (or self assessment) questions
  • briefing reviewers (so they know the CHI model)
  • interviews and observations

8
Early days of clinical governance recurrent
themes (2001)
  • Policies and strategy not implemented
  • Reactive rather than proactive
