Title: Web Modeling

1
Web Modeling
  • Elizabeth Bigelow
  • CS 15-499C
  • October 4, 2000

2
Today
  • Scheduling
  • Discussion of class association issues from last
    class
  • Web Modeling

3
Scheduling
  • Given the issues that are coming up, we need to
    switch to the other book
  • Fridays lecture will be on Chapter 2 of Java
    Design by Coad and Mayfield
  • Make up lecture will be Monday night
  • Mentoring scheduled for Friday will be at groups
discretion will try to reserve some time in
    class.

4
Next Round of Presentations
  • 10/11/2000remaining groups
  • Present projects (be sure to have handouts for
    the whole class)
  • Present class and sequence diagrams, but in less
detailadd deployment diagrams and web diagrams
    where appropriate

5
Making decisions on what to show in a diagram
  • Abstraction vs. truth
  • Where is the diagram in the evolution of the
    project?
  • Dont worry too much about programming at
    firstworry about conveying information
  • But dont abstract in such a way that the diagram
    is untrue

6
Visualizing a Class Association Diagram
  • What do you see when you look at a diagram?

7
Possible misconceptions
  • Utility of object modeling for databases systems
  • Difference between conceptual and implementation
    diagrams

8
Deployment Diagrams
  • Here we jump to implementation
  • Generally represent components rather than
    objects
  • What is a component?
  • Unit of computation
  • Usually more than one object
  • More concerned with external interfaces than
    internal construction
  • See Chapter 7 of Meilir Page-Jones book

9
The Web
  • Do objects make sense?
  • What is the intended audience of our models?
  • What would we want to accomplish with our
    diagrams?
  • What would be the objects?

10
Extending UML
  • Stereotypes
