Research
  • vivo magnetic resonance imaging
  • the use of radiofrequency micro coils for high
    resolution nuclear magnetic resonance and
    microscopy
  • hardware development for functional brain mapping
    using MRI
  • Applications
  • non-invasive temperature mapping of hyperthermia
    treatment of cancer
  • NMR imaging of single neuronal cells
  • mapping of brain areas associated with different
    memory and attention paradigms

Biography
  • Dr. Webb is a professor of Bioengineering. He
received his Ph.D. in 1989 at the University of
    Cambridge in the United Kingdom
  • He worked in Radiology in Gainsville, Florida.
Then he worked as an Electrical Engineer in
Illinois and now works in Bioengineering at Penn
    State. University.
  • He has been working in the Bioengineering
    department for 1.5 years.
  • He teaches Medical Imaging 406 where he goes over
    X-rays, Ultrasound, and MRI.
  • He also teaches Stat 404 on Fridays at 230pm and
    teaches 2 MRI graduate classes.

Interview Questions
  • How is research incorporated into industry?
  • What do you look for in a research assistant?
  • What do you feel is the most common misconception
    that people hold of BioE?
  • What are your areas of research and how are they
    important?
  • What are the up and coming fields in
    Bioengineering?
  • Are there any areas that are considered taboo?

7
Answers
  • Bioengineering works directly with industry.
Thus, advances in Bioengineering are immediately
    input into industry.
  • Someone curious and interested.
  • A common misconception is that people that dont
know much about Biology or Engineering have no
idea what Bioengineering is. Bioengineering is
    something unique.
  • Dr. Webb does MRI brain scans of mice and people
in order to evaluate changes in brain and skull
size and brain activity through the course of
life and in relation to tumors, diseases, and
    accidents.
  • Everything in Bioengineering is up and coming.
He had a focus on Genetics.
  • Yes. There is no discrimination in race and
politics. He also believes that there are
different brain functions between Democrats and
Republicans because of their different views.

8
Summary and Conclusion
  • The interview was rather interesting and
informative. Dr. Webb incorporated all of our
majors, which made us even more curious.
  • We feel like we know the faculty a little bit
    better.
  • Bioengineering works together with most other
    fields.

9
Why Dr. Webb?
  • We chose Dr. Webb because he was the only person
that appeared on everyones top three list of
professors. His field appealed to all of us.
