Additional Training
Playing under pressure
Introduction Starting November CC United
soccer will be taking strides to improve the
quality of play within each specific age group.
To do this we are elevating the level of the top
team. It is hoped that by raising the ability
level of the top team it will push our committed
soccer players to achieve higher standards of
play. The November training will bring our top
team online with what is being mandated at other
clubs around the state. Our commitment is still
substantially less than others but it is the
belief of the club that soccer should cooperate
with other winter sports not compete in their
peak season. It is also the belief that players
should play other sports but be committed to one
during its peak time. Program Content The
November/December training program will be
focusing on improving each players ability to
play under pressure. As players advance up the
ladder of youth soccer the game gets quicker and
players tend to rely on their athletic ability to
achieve success. This training will be focused on
technical ability to play at the highest level.
The players will be evaluated during the 1st
weeks and again at the end. During this
instruction we will be working on important
aspects of playing under pressure 1. Touch-
The ability to provide a good relaxed control
surface to receive the ball 2. Control The
Ability to maintain possession

3. Movement- The ability to
support the player on the ball 4. Speed- The
ability to execute control, movement and touch at
a faster pace

Playing under pressure
Age Group Development Each of the development
skills set within the topics of playing under
pressure have been age defined. U9/10 is the
starting point for all teams. It is the
responsibility of the coach to evaluate the
players and recognize when they are comfortable
enough to move on. Altering Pressure If
players are finding the activity easy bad habits
creep in and technical development will be
maintained not increased. As a coach your job is
to maintain a challenge to the players, so
altering pressure based on success is vital.
Things like space and time restriction,
additional opponents can add to the
challenge Chain of development It is the
goal of each player to work at their technique
and progress along the chain of development
(below). Each player with the coaches help will
work on control, speed, movement and touch and
see how far along the chain of development they
can progress. We will be encouraging the coach to
use this method in developing all techniques
throughout the season. The coach will set the
player a task and then give a score by asking the
questions below. The coach will also be asking
for feedback from the players to see where they
feel they are and at the end where they have
progressed to. It is the belief that through this
cooperation the coach will be able to give
constructive feedback and the players will be
aware of what they need to work on
