What is a Word Processor?

• A computer application for creating, modifying,
  printing, and e-mailing documents
• Produces easy-to-read, professional-looking
  documents such as
• Letters
• Résumés
• Reports
• Essays
• Title Pages
• The word processor we will use is Microsoft Word

Parts of the Word Window

• Document
• The type of file that is created in Word
• A file is temporarily saved as Document1 until we
  save it with a new name
• Has the file extension .doc
• Title Bar
• Shows the name of the program and the file name
  of the current document
• Menu Bar
• Used to select commands

• Shortcut buttons that perform certain actions
• Rulers
• Show the paper size and help to position text and
  graphics
• Scroll Bars
• Allow you to move around in a document
• Task Pane
• Provides links to perform specific tasks

• Shows information about the current document
• Insertion Point
• A blinking vertical line that shows where the
  next thing you type will appear
• In a new document, it is in the upper-left corner
