Key Points
  • There is some excellent work going on in the RDE
community. But the USER community was hurt by
    the loss of two hours.
  • RDE will sponsor a Study Group for a
Message-Based RTI Protocol Draft TOR submitted
    by 15 Apr 2003.
  • Follow up paper on Model Driven Architecture.
  • The NAIC invited presentation showed some new
    ways to approach simulation.

There is some excellent work going on in the RDE
community.
  • Explanation RDE took an action in the Fall to
reform the way that we did business. This
resulted in real, actionable issues for the SISO
    community.
  • Recommendation We will continue to pursue
excellence in our papers. Starting with the Fall
    CFP.
  • The RDE Secretary will publish the other actions
    on the RDE reflector.
  • We need our two hours back! The level of
enthusiasm of the USER community demands at LEAST
one whole day. Move the SAC Plenary to Monday.

7
RDE will sponsor a Study Group for a
Message-Based RTI Protocol
  • Explanation An open-source, message-based RTI
may present some definite advantages to the RDE
community. General Dynamics has done some
preliminary work that it has agreed to present to
an SG as a starting point. The authors of the
paper have recruited some assistance from the RDE
community. They will prepare their TOR before 15
    April 2003.
  • Recommendation Support the TOR at the SAC and
    EXCOM.

8
Draft TOR introduction
  • Message-Based RTI Study Group
  • The Message Based Run-Time Infrastructure (RTI)
is an open implementation of the High Level
Architecture (HLA) RTI. Message formats and data
handling algorithms for RTI services are
encapsulated in an open protocol. The Study
Group will investigate the applicability of the
    Message-Based RTI protocol, providing an
alternative to proprietary RTIs and promoting
open RTI Research and Development (RD). The
Study Group will solicit government and academia
for feasibility and prototyping efforts. A Study
Group Findings Outbrief and draft of the
Message-Based RTI Protocol will be presented at
    the Spring 2004 SIW.

9
Follow up paper on Model Driven Architecture.
  • Explanation After the Fall SIW, RDE solicited
follow-up papers to help direct our thought
processes. The paper made recommendations on a
proposal on how to apply MDA to HLA.
  • Recommendation The authors will submit the
paper and proposal to the RDE reflector for
    community wide comment and refinement.

10
The NAIC invited presentation showed some new
ways to approach simulation.
  • Explanation Authors have used COTS
(MATLAB/SIMULINK) to allow translation from paper
source data to models which can be used for
    simulation.
  • Recommendation We will publish contact
information on the RDE reflector. We invite the
authors (or other authors with similar
approaches) to provide follow-up paper in the
    fall.

Plans for Fall 03
  • Increase focus on RDE user requirements
  • Format
  • Combination of papers and workshop/panel (if we
    have a whole day)
  • Morning panel and papers concentrating on
    specific topic
  • Afternoon panel and workshop concentrating on
    specific topic
