6Single Honours Course
7Single Honours Modules Year 1
http//www.wkac.ac.uk/bm/
8Specialist Pathways
- Depend on choosing right options at L2 and L3
- Students must get gt40 of degree classification
from modules in their specialism - But always have the option of taking a standard
Business Management degree - Recommended to change pathways at start of L3
- So DipHE students cant register for a specialism
- Though they can choose L2 modules to qualify when
they get through to L3
9Combined Honours
- Study Business Management with another subject
of your choice - Equal in first year, then choose
- Joint Equal taught modules over levels 2 3
- Develop functional business skills and
quantitative/qualitative research skills - Main 75 Business, 25 subsidiary subject
- Deeper and more extensive knowledge
- Subsidiary 25 Business 75 other
- Develop functional business skills
- Not available alongside Tourism/Heritage
10Philosophy of CHP
- Cover Business Management benchmarks (except
for subsidiary students) - In less depth than in Single Honours, and
slightly less breadth - Key modules on techniques common to both
- Other first year modules have merged versions
for CHP - Same compulsory modules at levels 2 and 3
- Fewer options available

13BAMBA
- Top-up from HND
- Full-time BA in a single calendar year
- Bridging module, 6 level three modules, and a
final year project - Entry requires a merit profile HND
- Pass profile may give direct entry to year 2 of
Business Management Single Honours

14BAMBA (top up degree)
15Tourism and Heritage Management (THM)
- New suite validated in 2004
- Too late for inclusion in publicity (or 2005
prospectus) - Programmes have just begun with low numbers
- CHP with Business treated as special case
- Three programmes (CHP field and single honours)
- Tourism and Heritage Management
- Tourism Management
- Heritage Management
- Common first year for all three programmes
- Students can then make informed decision to
specialize in TH or HM
16Observations on THM
- Tourism degrees are oversupplied in England
- Winchesters unique selling feature is heritage
- Most past THM students become enthusiastic about
heritage and do a Heritage FYP - But Heritage is not seen as sexy in schools
- Named Tourism Management programme may help
recruitment
17Business and THM in CHP
- Two Management disciplines
- Previous THM field had modules common with
Business Management - This combination had to be special-cased to
avoid students taking common modules twice - Special cases were ad hoc and not designed in
- 2004 validation defined Single Hons pathways to
replace combinations with Business Mgt field - Business Mgt with THM
- Business Mgt with TM
- Business Mgt with HM
Not comparable with specialist pathways on
Business Management
18Leisure Management
- Separately validated programmes
- CHP produced first graduates 2004
- First single honours cohort to graduate in 2005
- Same problem with overlapping modules when field
taken alongside Business Management - Ad hoc solution still in place
- Ripe for integration with the THM suite
- Hard to distinguish Tourism from Leisure
except that tourists stay the night! - No revalidation before 2005-06 though
19Basingstoke BAMBA
- Top-up from HND (or HNCAPEL)
- Part-time BA in a two calendar years
- Different Bridging module from Winchester to
match the demographics (older, in careers) - plus 6 level three modules, and a final year
project - Entry typically involves building portfolio of
prior experience - Accelerated progress possible by taking modules
in Winchester
20Foundation Degrees
- FdA in Management validated May 2003, started

- 2 modules per semester, one after another
