While relaxing at Starbucks one evening, you
overhear a man talking about his unique ancestry.
As you listen, you discover that his
great-grandmother on his mothers side immigrated
from Germany. His great-grandfather from the
Austro-Hungarian Empire. His grandfather came
from Italy. On his fathers side, his people
came from Russia, Ireland and Britain.

4
Since you are a recent immigrant yourself, the
conversation catches your attention.
You are so eager to share your own experiences
about coming to the United States that you decide
to politely introduce yourself. (Using the
etiquette that you just learned in Mrs. Vargas
class.)
5
The Offer
Impressed by your awesome introduction and
ability to carry a conversation, Mr. Vladimir
Vanzetti-OMalley returns the introduction and
makes you an offer.
6
As it turns out, hes an eccentric millionaire
with lots of money on his hands, but no time.
Hes been looking for someone to research his
family history . . .
. . . and hes willing to pay big bucks!
7
What he Knows . . .
He knows his family first arrived in the US
between 1880 and 1930, and that they came from
Britain, Germany, Ireland, Russia, Italy and
the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Sadly, he
knows little else . . .

You reflect on the wonderful experience you had
researching for Mrs. Vargas persuasion paper,
and decide . . .
10
You Accept
Ill do it! You shout! (Everyone in
Starbucks turns to stare at you.) Id love to
help, you whisper this time. Thats
wonderful, replies Mr. Vanzetti-OMalley. Heres
what I want you to do . . .
11
The Challenge
You quickly discover that Mr. Vanzetti-OMalley
is extremely particular. After conducting the
research, he wants you to create a 10-slide Power
Point presentation. The presentation has to be
set up in exactly his way, or you will not get
your money. AND . . . you have only ONE day to
conduct research
12
Getting Started
Wow! you think. How will I do that all on my
own?
By the way, Mr. Vanzetti-OMalley says. Im
only going to give you one country to focus
on. Whew! you think to yourself. And . . .
you can work with a partner of your choice!
13
Graphic Rules!

accurate to time and place. Do not use graphics
as full backgrounds! Mr. Vanzetti-OMalley hates
when he cant read the text because the pictures
or colors are too distracting. Do not use
graphics displayed on these power points.   Mr.
Vanzetti-OMalley wants you to be original! Find
