  • Minimum qualifications must be met
  • Period of stay One Year - extendable

L Visas The Basics
  • Nonimmigrant Visa - Intent is to return to
    country of origin upon completion of assignment
  • Must have worked for one continuous year out of
    past three years for sponsoring company
  • US company must have qualifying relationship with
    foreign company
  • Minimum qualifications must be met
  • Initial period of stay One Year extendable for
    total of seven years

H-1B Visas The Basics
  • Nonimmigrant Visa but can have intent to adjust
    to permanent status
  • The current law limits to 65,000 the number of
    aliens who may be issued a visa or otherwise
    provided H-1B status
  • Employer specific
  • Minimum qualifications must be met
  • Generally, H-1B status is for a maximum period of
    six years at a time. After that time an alien
    must remain outside the United States for one
    year before another H-1B petition can be
    approved.
