CURSED is the one who trusts in man
BLESSED is the man who trusts in the Lord
SUMMARY
BLESSED is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose
confidence is in him. He will be like a tree
planted by the water that sends out its roots by
the stream. It does not fear when heat comes
its leaves are always green. It has no worries
in a year of drought and never fails to bear
fruit."
Jeremiah 177-8
OUR GOAL TODAY
If the Lord delights in a man's way, he makes his
steps firm though he stumble, he will not fall,
for the Lord upholds him with his hand. I was
young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the
righteous forsaken or their children begging
bread Wait for the Lord and keep his way. He
will exalt you.
  • To discuss

Gods Perspective On A Steady, Fruitful Life
2. the blessings promised in his life
We who trust in the Lord will be like a tree
planted by the water that sends out its roots by
the stream. It does not fear when heat comes
its leaves are always green. It has no worries
in a year of drought and never fails to bear
fruit.

To know the informationis good, but the keyto
spiritual growthis to make a decisionto
apply, in a personal way, what we have learned.
My relationship with God
So what does that look like in my life?
A. If I cultivate the same appetite for God, I
can have the same relationship enjoyed by
David, Paul, and the believers of Heb. 11.
So the big question is whether I am hungry for
God or just prefer little snacks.
I would like to buy 3 worth of God, pleasenot
enough to explode my soul or disturb my sleep,
but just enough to equal a cup of warm milk or a
snooze in the sunshine. I want ecstasy, not
trans-formation I want the warmth of the womb,
not a new birth. I want a pound of the Eternal
in a pa-per sack. I would like to buy 3 worth
of God, please.

My relationship with God
How many of Davids phrases are my phrases?
I will seek you with all my heart I rejoice in
following your statutes as one rejoices in great
riches My soul is consumed with longing for your
laws at all times I will keep your law and obey
it with all my heart How I long for your
precepts I delight in your commands because I
love them At midnight I rise to give you thanks
for your righteous laws The law from your mouth
is more precious to me than thousands of
pieces of silver and gold My soul faints with
longing for your salvation Oh, how I love your
law! I meditate on it all day long How sweet
are your words sweeter than honey to my mouth I
gain understanding from your preceptsI hate
every wrong path Your word is a lamp to my feet
and a light for my path

My relationship with God
A. If I cultivate the same appetite for God, I
can have the same relationship enjoyed by
David, Paul, and the believers of Heb. 11.
B. This will provide me a strong, unshakeable
base from which flows every aspect of my
lifeit determines the influence I have on
all relationships, including
my community
the church
my family
5
My relationship with my family
A. Such a root system will affect them in every
good way
1. My choice of a mate suitable to/corresponding
to me, like Eve was for Adam.
2. I will be a husband who loves, cherishes,
nourishes my wife that relationship will
continually prosper as I cultivate it w/the
guidelines given me in Eph. 525-29 and 1Pet.
37-9

Eph. 525-29
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved
the church and gave himself up for her 26 to make
her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water
through the word, 27 and to present her to
himself as a radiant church, without stain or
wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and
blameless. 28 In this same way, husbands ought to
love their wives as their own bodies. He who
loves his wife loves himself. 29 After all, no
one ever hated his own body, but he feeds and
cares for it, just as Christ does the church- 30
for we are members of his body. 31 "For this
reason a man will leave his father and mother and
be united to his wife, and the two will become
one flesh." 32 This is a profound mystery-but I
am talking about Christ and the church. 33
However, each one of you also must love his wife
as he loves himself
7
Eph. 525-29
Eph. 525-29 1Pet. 37-9
1 Pet. 37-9
Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you
live with your wives, and treat them with respect
as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of
the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will
hinder your prayers. 8 Finally, all of you, live
in harmony with one another be sympathetic, love
as brothers, be compassionate and humble. 9 Do
not repay evil with evil or insult with insult,
but with blessing, because to this you were
called so that you may inherit a blessing.
Love her like Christ loved the church
Love her like Christ loved the church
Sacrifice yourself for her..gladly
Sacrifice yourself for her..gladly
Treat her as someone different, special
Treat her as separate, special, radiant
Love her as you love yourself
Cause her to be radiant from your treatment
Love her as you love yourself
Be considerate as you live with her
Treat her with respect
Live in harmony with her
Be sympathetic to her
Be compassionate to her
When treated badly, respond with good
When insulted, respond with a blessing

My effect on the church
A. Such a root system will affect them in every
good way
1. A church with families like that cannot help
but thrive spiritually.
1. My choice of a mate suitable to/corresponding
to me, like Eve was for Adam.
2. Behind every divided/dead congregation is a
group of Christians with weak, shallow
roots unnourished by God.
2. I will be a husband who loves, cherishes,
nourishes my wife that relationship will
continually prosper as I cultivate it w/the
guidelines given me in Eph. 525-29 and 1Pet.
37-9
3. Elders will be chosen who really do have all
the qualities listed in 1Tim. 31-7 and
Titus 15-9.
4. The flock will be well fed and cared for, and
its spiritual growth should flourish.
3. With a family firmly rooted in Gods
nourishment, we will have a strong, positive
impact on the church with which we worship.
5. A church like this will have a positive impact
on the community in which people like this
live.

1. As salt, as per the 10 righteous who would
have saved Sodom Gomorrah as per Prov.

2. As light and salt which cast their effects on
neighbors, co-workers, friends, etc., as I am
involved in my child- rens schools, activity
groups, etc.
Prov 1110 -- When the righteous prosper, the
city rejoices
1 Tim 21-3 -- I urge, then, first of all, that
requests, prayers, inter-cession and thanksgiving
be made for everyone-for kings and all those in
authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet
lives in all godliness and holiness. This is
good, and pleases God our Savior.
3. My prayers for rulers, kings and secular
concerns will make a difference.
4. I must remember that David did not pray for
victory and then not fight he prayed, then
took his sword and whacked away at the enemy!
My appetite for God strongly impacts

Ps 162 - I said to the Lord, "You are my Lord
apart from you I have no good thing."
Ps 271-3 - The Lord is my light and my
salvation-whom shall I fear? The Lord is the
stronghold of my life--of whom shall I be afraid?
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not
fear though war break out against me, even then
will I be confident.
Nourished by God
I will abound in spiritual strength
Ps 251-5 - To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul 2
in you I trust, O my GodNo one whose hope is in
you will ever be put to shameShow me your ways,
O Lord, teach me your paths guide me in your
truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
My family will be blessed
The church will be strengthened
Ps 421-2 - As the deer pants for streams of
water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul
thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I
go and meet with God?
My community will be better
Ps 231-3 - The Lord is my shep-herd, I shall not
be in want. He makes me lie down in green
pas-tures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he
restores my soul
Ps 261-3 - I have trusted in the Lord without
wavering. Test me, O Lord, and try me, examine my
heart and my mind for your love is ever before
me, and I walk continually in your truth
What a great heart!

Two questions remain
1. What is the condition of my heart?
2. What am I going to do about it or with it?
