Healthcare Emergency Incident Command
System(HEICS)
  • HEICS is a command and control system for
    managing disasters that is based on the Incident
    Command System used in fire, police, and
    emergency medical service departments, but
    adapted for use in a healthcare setting.

Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (HVA)
  • An HVA identifies the events most likely to
    affect your organization and the probable impact
    if they do occur
  • Based on identified hazards, the facility should
    assess how prepared they are to handle them
  • Depending on the evaluated level of preparedness,
    the facility must take necessary steps to ensure
    they are prepared to meet the challenges
    presented by the hazards

  • Natural Hazards i.e. tornado
  • Public health disaster i.e. pandemic flu
