• How to add and subtract rational expressions
• Simplify complex fractions

Rules for adding and subtracting

• Factor all denominators completely.
• Remember to pull out the GCF first.
• Multiply the 1st fraction by any missing terms or
  groups that are in the other denominators.
• Multiply the 2nd fraction by any missing terms or
  groups that are in the other denominators.
• Continue this process if you have 3 or more
  fractions.
• Now that you have common denominators, simplify
  the numerator
• Write your answer as a single fraction.

Simplify the Complex Fraction

• If you can just remember to multiply by the
  reciprocal, youll be fine.
