Activity 1

• Have each student come up with a tool to
  explain a chosen job. For example a wrench to
  represent a plumber, a jack hammer to represent a
  construction worker
• Have students explain these tools so other
  students can remember

Activity 2

• Students will interview a parent or other role
  model and tell how that persons job connects to
  the community
• If possible the interviewee could come to the
  class to answer additional questions

Activity 3

• The class will take a trip to the firehouse in
  order to see the uniforms, fire suits, and
  equipment
• Students will learn about fire safety and upon
  returning to school, role play these safety
  procedures

Activity 4

• A police officer will come in and discuss public
  safety, such as strangers, drugs, and personal
  information (knowing address, phone number, etc.)
• Children would then make a pretend ID card

Activity 5

• Read the book Community Helpers A-Z by Bobbie
  Kalman (as a read aloud) and discuss the
  different jobs
• Have students draw themselves as a community
  helper with a few sentences describing why they
  chose that job
