A. Jesus love in John 1421
1. It does not essentially refer to Jesus work
to make salvation possible.

• His High Priestly/mediatorial ministry.

B. Jesus the Great High Priest

• Background
• There were three distinct offices among the
  people of God in the Old Testament

• King ruled over God's people as Gods
  representative
• Prophet spoke to people on behalf of God
• Priest offered sacrifices, prayers, praise to
  God on behalf of the people.

• These foreshadowed Jesus work.
• Jesus is King. Rules over church universe.
• Jesus is Prophet. God with us. Speaks Gods words
  to us, cf. Deut. 1815-18.
• Jesus is Priest. Only mediator between man God,
  cf. 1 Tim. 25.

C. Jesus The Great High Priest shows His love for
His followers

• Jesus follows the pattern of the OT priest but
  in different spheres
• On earth He offered Himself a final sacrifice
  for sin, cf. Heb. 1012.
• In Heaven He intercedes for His people, cf. Heb.

• In Heaven, Jesus intercedes for those who love
  Him.
