CPD for Pharmacists

• 2005 is the Royal Pharmaceutical Societys first
  year of mandatory CPD for pharmacists.
• The WoSCAN CPD strategy will be used to help plan
  CPD for oncology pharmacists

Pharmacist Training

• Scottish Hospital Pharmacists Vocational Training
  Scheme set up by Association of Scottish Chief
  Pharmacists in conjunction with NES
• Stage 1 pre-registration training
• Stage 2 rotational pharmacists
• Stage 3 (under development) specialist
  pharmacists

Oncology Pharmacist Competencies

• A generic competency framework for pharmacists
  has been developed
• Delivery of patient care
• Problem solving
• Personal competencies
• Specific oncology pharmacist competencies have
  been developed by the British Oncology Pharmacy
  Association. Split into 3 levels
• Foundation
• Excellence
• Mastery

Pharmacy Technician CPD

• Pharmacy technician registration and CPD is
  currently on a voluntary basis.
• Registration and CPD will be made mandatory from
  January 2007.

Addressing the Needs

• A questionnaire has been developed by the
  Education and Training Group of the West of
  Scotland Cancer Pharmacy Network
• Identifies the training requirements of oncology
  staff, pharmacists and technicians based on
  elements from the existing competencies and
  WoSCAN CPD strategy

• Will determine perceived barriers to learning

  multidisciplinary training
