What is EDF ?
  • Created in 1997
  • European platform of disability NGOs
  • Working towards full access for persons with
    disabilities to civil and human rights
  • An independent and strong voice
  • Promoting social model of disability

Access to transport
  • Travelling independently is a condition for
    participation and inclusion
  • Today there are barriers to transport for persons
    with disabilities
  • As long as there are no satisfactory alternatives
    many persons with disabilities will rely on their
    cars
  • Accessibility must be a part of the
    sustainability discussions

Drivers licence
  • Individual assessment is necessary noone should
    be excluded from driving just because (s)he
    belongs to a certain category
  • Renewed licences at no or limited cost for
    persons with progressive disabilities
  • Licences should refer to the type of adaptation
    needed

Subsidies
  • Employment should not be a requirement for
    receiving subsidies
  • Subsidies/reductions also for persons who are
    driving a person with a disability

  • Extremely expensive today
  • Need for fair competition

  • Drivers licences must have the same validity as
    for other drivers
