Development

  • Selena Murillo (CEC, Life Coach, CRM-T)

2
  • There comes that mysterious meeting in life when
someone acknowledges who we are and what we can
be, igniting the circuits of our highest
    potential
  • Rusty Berkus

3
What is coaching?
  • Coaching is a rapidly growing process in
supporting others to improve their life, develop
    themselves both personally and professionally,
acquiring new skills and tools, find a deeper
sense of success, achieve goals, and manage
    transition, challenges and change.

4
Conversation vs. Dialogue
  • Conversation
  • informal or friendly talk the exchange of
    thoughts by talking informally.
  • Great way to break the ice with someone new

5
Dialogue
  • The following is taken from Thomas G. Cranes
    The Heart of Coaching
  • Coaching Through Dialogue, The Art of
    Conversation
  • Dialogue is an effective approach to discovering
commonality and connection. Using it takes
discipline and a personal commitment to remaining
open. The purpose of dialogue is to inquire and
learn about others and to discover the shared
meaning that makes human connection and aligned
    action possible.

6
  • Dialogue has its roots in the Greek dia and
logos, which translates to meaning flowing
through. Dialogue can be defined as
  • The respectful, two-way, open-ended flow of
    communication that balances listening and
speaking for the purpose of learning.

7
  • Coaches assist, challenge, and encourage rather
    than direct, advise or teach

8
  • Coaching draws out the highest and strongest
qualities in a person or team. Coaching is
    reflective rather than directive, responsive
rather than reactive and very flexible. The
    coaching partnership provides a non-judgmental
and supportive environment to move through the
    discovery process

9
  • Coaching is NOT counseling or therapy. Counseling
or therapy focuses on the past and how it affects
you now. Coaching focuses on who you are NOW,
where you are going and who you are becoming.

10
How does coaching work?
  • Coaching is driven by process not by content.
  • Coaching is transparent
  • Coaching engages the client in self exploration,
    self discovery and self determination
  • Coaching works by asking not telling
  • Coaching isnt limited by a problem solving focus

11
  • Coaching is about more than making to-do lists
  • Coaching assumes discovery and surprise
  • Coaching harnesses unconscious knowledge,
    resourcefulness and creativity
  • The success of coaching is evidenced by the
clients action, not just by what they say
