What is the FFA?
  • It is designed to provide students with
    leadership and skill development opportunities to
    prepare them for the careers of tomorrow.

How did the FFA Get Organized?
  • The passage of the Smith-Hughes Vocational Act in
    1917 gave vocational agriculture its push by
    providing federal funding for programs to be set
    up in high schools across America.

How did the FFA Get Organized?
  • In 1920s, Henry C. Groseclose, considered the
    father of the FFA, started an organization in
    Virginia called the Future Farmers of Virginia
    (FFV)
  • In 1928, FFV was changed to Future Farmers of
    America and they held their first National FFA
    Convention in Kansas City, MO at the Hotel
    Baltimore. This began the establishment of the
    FFA Organization

  • 1952 The National Future Farmer Magazine first
    published.
  • 1965 The NFA and FFA Merged to form one
    organization
  • 1969 Females were allowed membership
  • 1976 Julie Smiley was the first female to be
    elected as a national Officer
  • 1987 The Future Farmers of America changed name
    to National FFA Organization.
  • 1930 First FFA Creed was written by E.M. Tiffany
    (Wisconsin)
  • It has been revised twice, 1965 and 1990
  • 1933 First FFA Jacket Introduced
  • 1947 First National FFA Band performed
  • 1948 The FFA Supply opened

  • 1989 The FFA Magazine changed name to FFA New
    Horizons
  • 1998 FFA National FFA Convention was held for the
    last time in Kansas City
  • 1998 National FFA Offices moved from Alexandria,
    VA to Indianapolis, IN
  • 1999 The National FFA Convention was held for the
    first time in Louisville, KY
  • 2006 The National FFA Convention moves from
    Louisville to Indianapolis

  • Wear white socks
  • Fill the front of your jacket with pins and
    stickers
  • Wear really short dresses (Dresses should be knee
    length.)
  • Apply your school letter to it.
