Title: OCR Short Course
1OCR Short Course
- Coursework 1a - Practical skills and
understanding relating to the use of ICT
applications
2Lesson 1 Coursework brief and initial designs
Coursework Task
Your task is to produce a rolling Powerpoint
presentation for the school foyer. It is to
incorporate 6 slides and must be formal in style.
The target audience is any visitor that comes
into school, although it is specifically targeted
at adults. It should be self-rolling and should
return to the first slide when the last one has
finished
3Lesson 1 Coursework brief
- Start designing your Powerpoint presentation.
Think about how you can develop a style to use on
all slides. How can you make it visually
impressive? Look at the example that is
currently in the foyer. The use of autoshapes,
images, etc. Do not copy this, but think about
how you can use similar techniques. By the end
of the lesson, target the completion of your
first slide. - Keep a record of every website you use (including
images). Put all of these references in the
bibiograhy.doc in Shared/Students/InfoTech/Year
11/ShortCourse/1a/ - Homework design two possible layouts for your
presentation annotating why you are thinking of
this particular layout / font. You can do this
by hand or using a computer.
This is an example layout plan for a magazine
4Lesson 2 and 3 Coursework brief
- Continue designing your Powerpoint presentation,
remembering the design remit you have been given
by the Headteacher.
- Remember, the presentation must not be
interactive at all. It must automatic. To do
this, your teacher will show you how to - Time animations.
- Time slide transitions.
- Loop show.
- You should attempt to finish slide 2 and 3 by the
end of lesson 3. Lesson 4 will move onto graph
drawing. - Homework finish graphs 2 and 3. ICT Club is
available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for
this.
5Lesson 4 Spreadsheet work
- You need to show that you can manipulate a
spreadsheet and draw a graph. - Find out the GCSE 5 A-C pass rate for the last
five years. You can find it on the school
website. - Input this data into Excel.
- Format the spreadsheet (i.e. make year column in
date format and the results in percentage
format). - Draw a graph showing the improvement in
examination results. Make sure that you label
the axis correctly. - Insert your graph and table of data into slide 4
of your Powerpoint presentation. - Include some text on slide 4 which introduces the
graph and the data.
6Lesson 5 and 6 Multimedia
- You now need to complete all of your Powerpoint
presentation. In this time, you need to ensure
that you do the following - Use a variety of ICT and non-ICT sources
- Edit (change the content) and format (changed the
appearance) of some information. - Screen print the evolution of your work.
- Use a spell checker (and evidence it) and employ
a proof-reader (someone suitable include before
and after prints). - Screen print some of your complicated searches
and refined searches. - Develop your bibliography (including all
weblinks).
Homework finish presentation and revise for
mock examination (Shared/Students/InfoTech/Year

7Lesson 7 - 11 Write up
- We now need to start the write up for your
Powerpoint presentation. This counts for more
marks than the actual design itself. - On the network, you can find 1a writeup
guide.doc. Follow these instructions exactly.

Write Up Guide.doc - You can also self assess your progress by looking
at the detailed examination criteria, by looking
at Mark Scheme.doc in the same folder. - Homeworks work on write-up and revise for mock
