SKIN Leveled Layers

Levels of the Epidermis
Melanocyctes contain a pigment called Melanin.
This is what gives people a color to the skin. It
also protects the skin from the sun. It contains
a substance that combines with sunlight to make
Vitamin D.

Contents of the Dermis Layer
  • Connective Tissue
  • (Proteins Collagen Elastin)
  • Penetrated by nerves, veins, arteries, venules,
    arterioles, capillaries, lymph ducts, hair
follicles, and two types of SWEAT GLANDS
  • Apocrine found under arms. Foul odor comes
from the bacteria eating their milky secretions.
  • Eccrine found all over the body and excretes
    salty, acidic water.
  • Sweat glands do the job of tiny kidneys, and
help rid the body of unwanted toxins and body
waste. The acid helps to protect the skin from
    some harmful bacteria !

4
Even fingernails, toenails, hair, and the clear
covering of the eye (cornea) are made of skin
cells!

INTERESTING FLESH FACTS
  • YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT A healthy, balanced diet is
THE KEY to Healthy, Glowing, Radiant, FLESH
    (skin).
  • Skin color will change under sustained increases
in levels of sun exposure due to living near the
    equator.
  • Massive doses of UV sunlight change the
capillaries of the skin, causing them to swell
(blister) and fill with water. This is called
    SUNBURN.
  • Tanning uses UV light to spread the melanocytes
out evenly across the skin. Freckled people do
not get a tan, they will get a sunburn instead!

6
More Skin Tales
  • Skin is the largest organ in the body. An adult
has approximately 2 square meters of skin.
  • A person sheds about 40 pounds of skin in a
    lifetime.
  • Skin is responsible for our Sense of Touch. It
can sense hot and cold, tickles, soft loving
touches, harsh abrupt jerks, and pain of varying
    degrees.
