Inciting Incident

• The inciting incident is the first major
  incident that really pulls you into the story.
  It is the moment when the main story line gets
  introduced.
• In Hamlet the inciting incident is when the
  old Hamlets ghost visits Hamlet on the
  battlements.

Synecdoche

• When a whole is represented by one of its
  parts, or vice versa
• Matthew 6, Give us this day our daily bread
  
• Bread is a part of food but is used in its
  place to symbolize food.

Satire

• The use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the
  like to denounce folly.
• Mark Twain uses Huckleberry Finn to exhibit his
  objection to the blind faith that civilized
  society places towards religion.

• placing the verb in front of the noun
• the night air is sweet sweet is the night air
