At Birth
  • The first words a baby should hear are those of
    the Adhaan
  • They are whispered into the right ear of the
    child by Dad
  • They are given something sweet to taste usually
    the juice of a Date.

  • God is great, there is no God but Allah.
    Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. Come to prayer

7 days after being born
  • Babys head is shaved
  • The hair is weighed and the parents give the
    equivalent weight in silver to charity
  • Boys are circumcised
  • The babys name is chosen
  • Aqeeqah is also carried out

    relatives, neighbours and the poor
  • In Britain, hygiene laws mean that lamb has to be

  • The baby is placed on the knee of a male
    relative
  • He is known as the Sandek his job is to keep
    the baby still
  • The ceremony is performed by a Mohel
  • The baby is given his name at this ceremony

  • Naming ceremony performed in front of the Guru
    Granth Sahib (holy book)
  • Drops of Amrit (sugar and water) are placed on
    the babys lips (mum drinks the rest)
  • Baby is named by opening the holy book the name
    is decided by the opening letter of the first
    hymn on the page opened

  • A boy will have the name Singh (lion) added to
    his name
  • A girl will have the name Kaur (princess)
  • The family is presented with the cloth that
    covers the holy book (known as Romala)
  • Special pudding the Karah Parashad is given to
    everyone at the ceremony
  • Baby is given a Kara small wrist band.

IT to help you but this will have to be done at
home
