Coca-Cola Advertisement
This is a good advertisement because it shows a
polar bear which lives in the arctic holding a
Coke with the title Always Cool. It means that
a polar bear couldnt hold it if it wasnt cool!

September 11th
  • I chose the front page of the Honolulu
Advertiser because it shows how the event not
only had a huge effect on the people of the east
coast, but also those on the other side of the
    country

Womens Suffrage Advertisement
  • I believe this advertisement is a good
example of womens suffrage. It is usually up to
the man to choose construction materials. This
article encourages women to make their own
    decision on construction work.

Fiddle Tunes of the Old Frontier
  • Cabin Creek
  • Cabin Creek, from which this three-part
tune takes its name, is a creek that flows into
the Kanawha River above Charleston, West
Virginia. It was the site of a famous strike in
the annals of West Virginia coal, but this tune
may evoke the creek generally rather than the
battles fought there. It is of that variety of
tune, popular in West Virginia, which begins at
the top of the tune's compass and cascades
downward by degrees--like a creek, one might
think. Another name for this tune is "Barlow
Knife," and it is often played under that title
as a banjo piece with some associated lyrics.
Henry Reed said he learned this tune from Mr.
Underwood, who had moved from Franklin County to
Monroe County, and described it as an old
    Franklin County piece.

James Madison
  • I chose this political cartoon about the
Embargo Act as an important event in President
Madisons life because trade disputes became one
of his first concerns after taking office in 1808.

American Indians of the Pacific Northwest
  • Pacific Northwest Coast woman in camp on beach,
with fish and clams on drying rack, ca. 1900
  • I do not think I would like to live in a teepee.
There is only one room, there are
  • no windows, and the opening in the top would let
in the cold air. Also you would
  • have to cook and use the facilities outside.

Stamp Act
  • In 1765 this was the first tax put on American
newspapers, legal documents and more in order to
raise money for Britain. The documents were
stamped to show that the tax was paid.

Uncle Billy McCrea, Age 89
  • Billy McCrea tells how he would sing Blow Cornie
Blow while unloading salt from a ship and toting
it up the bank to the warehouse. He said, Old
master just sit beside you For six years he
    cooked on the boats.

October 12
  • A sailor on board the Pinta sighted land early in
the morning of October 12, 1492, and a new era of
European exploration and expansion began. The
next day, the 90 crew members of Christopher
Columbus's three-ship fleet ventured onto the
Bahamian island of Guanahaní, ending a voyage
begun nearly ten weeks earlier in Palos, Spain.
