A Trip to Alfriston and Beachy Head
2
Beachy Head
  • Beachy Head is one of the most beautiful places
in East Sussex. It is the cost line at the end of
a number of chalk cliffs called Seven Sisters.
The drop from the top of the cliff to the sea
level is very steep and has a breath-taking view.
The lighthouse at bottom of the drop makes it
    more attractive.

eastside
4
Another lighthouse
  • There is also another lighthouse called Belle
Tout on the top of the cliff. Because of the
danger of landslide, recently they've moved this
    lighthouse back.

Alfriston
  • Alfriston is a very old village built on a Saxon
settlement. During the mediaeval time, with its
church and market, it was the centre of a large
community. In the last thirty years it has become
    a residential place.

The Market cross
  • Alfriston has one of the two surviving Market
crosses in East Sussex. The base is very old but
the top was added in 1833.

8
The Star Inn
  • The Star Inn is a very old building (1520) built
as a resting place for pilgrims visiting the tomb
of St. Richard in Chichester. You can still see
the carvings of St. George and the dragon above
    the windows.

9
The Old Clergy House
  • The Old Clergy House was built in 1380 and was
bought by the National Trust in 1896. It was the
    first house they bought.

10
St Andrew's church
  • St Andrew's church was built in 1360
  • Recently a lot of work has been done to renovate
    the church
  • The graveyard was the only cemetery for this part
    of Sussex until 1762
