The Writing Lesson

• Purpose Teach a struggling writer to compose 1
  paragraph about a favorite topic of the writer
• Materials Paper and pencil or pen
• Student Task Complete a 10 minute writing task

Characteristics of the Writer

• Can retell information about personal events and
  preferred topics
• Has poor handwriting and spelling skills
• Doesnt demonstrate punctuation or capitalization
• Uses run-on and sentence fragments

• You will need to write with your non-writing hand
• Person 3 The recorder
• You will make notes on the critical elements of
  the writing process
