Wind Generation Interconnection Issues

• While the electric utility industry has made much
  progress in understanding and interconnecting
  wind generation with the transmission system,
  there are still significant areas that need to be
  addressed.
• Within WECC, a coordinated effort by the recently
  formed Renewable Resources Coordination Group has
  been initiated to better understand and assign
  specific renewable technical issues to applicable
  technical groups.
• For example, the following issues have initially
  been interconnecting specific to wind generation
  integration

• Interconnection to weak grids.
• Modeling Data
• Different machine types (old farms)
• Standardizing modeling of (four) different
  turbine types
• Temperature dependence of turbines
• Dynamic performance (small and large signal
  performance)

  requirements
• FERC PF control may conflict with voltage control
