Sockliner

• The insole
• The removable insert
• Usually made from a synthetic, shock-absorbing
  material

Midsole

• The cushioning material between the bottom of the
  shoe and the sockliner
• Walking shoe midsoles are thinner than running
  shoe midsoles to allow for the rolling motion of
  your foot

Outsole

• The bottom of the shoe, including the treads
• Provides further cushioning
• Provides traction

Heel Counter

• A hard, molded plastic or cardboard structure
  that wraps around the heel
• It keeps the heel centered and stable as the foot
  strikes the ground

Toe Box

• The front part of the shoe that houses your toes
• There should be a thumbnail sized space in front
  of your longest toe

Upper

• The top part of the shoe
• Could be leather, nylon mesh or a combination of
  the two

Lacing System

• Consists of holes and D-rings
• Allows for faster lacing, a better fit and
  greater comfort
